The flavor of the beans resembles that of an asparagus. Like a spinach, the young leaves of the winged bean are often prepared as a vegetable dish or in salads.

Its dried seeds may be used as flour, or as a coffee-like drink. All parts of the winged bean are thought to be a good source of natural minerals, and contain vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, iron.

Due to its high calcium content, winged beans are thought to be highly beneficial to the human skeletal system, and are said to overcome diseases and weaknesses. Also a great source of protein for both humans and animals.
