Windmill Palm

A palm native to central China, the Windmill Palm grows up to altitudes of 2400m. It is a fan palm of the Arecaceae family  and the Trachycarpeae tribe. Cultivated in China and Japan for thousands of years where its coarse, sturdy leaf sheath fibre is used to make ropes, sacks, and other coarse, sturdy cloth.
