Shiso is an annual plant, a member of the mint family native to East Asia. It grows between 30 centimetres to 2 metres tall, with purple or green stems with four parallel grooves, blooming in late Summer to Autumn. Its palm sized serrated edge round leaves are available in green and purple varieties. Its flavour is often described as curry-like, combining hints of cumin, cilantro, parsley with a hint of cinnamon.
