A medicinal herb, otherwise known as “spergularia rubra”. Comes from the caryophyllaceae family. Leaves of the sandwort are known to be diuretic and litontripic, while the plant contains a fragrant viscous substance.
Used to treat ailments including kidney stones, acute and chronic cystitis and catarrh of the bladder, as a sandwort infusion is thought to ease the muscle walls of the urinary tubules. Otherwise, its seed may be cooked, dried and ground, then used to complement flour in making bread.
