Redcurrant
Ribes Rubrum

Redcurrants are native to parts of western Europe, a deciduous shrub about 1.5 metres in height. It has five-lobed leaves arranged spirally on the stems, and yellowish-green flowers that mature into attractive, translucent berries growing in grape-like clusters, each measuring 8-12 millimetres. Fruits range in color from dark red to pink, yellow, white and beige, and they continue to sweeten on the bush even after they appear to be in full colour. Plants are dependable, vigorous, late ripening, and very productive, bearing long-stemmed clusters of large red berries that are high in vitamin C and antioxidants.
