The orange peel is thought to be anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, aromatic, carminative and diuretic, among other medicinal properties. Has an earthy and pleasant odor, though tastes slightly bitter when eaten.
Usually grated and added to candies, breads, cookies and cakes, the orange peel gives zest to vegetable dishes and improves the digestion of food. Used to improve the flavor of other medicines, the peel is used in making marmalade and liqueurs such as Curaço.
