The Okra leaves, or Lady’s Finger Leaves, are related to cotton, cocoa and hibiscus. The leaves may be cooked or eaten raw as salads, and may be used as a powerful soup thickener.

While the fruit itself is rich in oxalates, unspecified parts of Okra were reportedly found to have diuretic properties, and commonly used in herbal or traditional medicine.
