Jícama

A high calorie starch often referred to as the Mexican Yam, or Mexican Turnip. Jícama is often paired with a great variety of spices of condiments, such as chili powder, cilantro, ginger, lemon, lime, blood oranges, red onion or salsa. Extremely popular in Mexico, the root vegetable is often added into salads, fresh fruit combos, soups, and other cooked dishes. Only the root of the Jícama is edible- the rest of the plant is highly toxic and often used as insecticide and fish bait.
