The plant has a high content vitamins A, C, and K, as well as flavonoids and rutin, and a decoction of which is thought to heal sore throat, fevers, wounds, diarrhoea, internal bleeding, and weaknesses of the liver and heart. In Ancient China, the plant was used extensively to treat liver problems. Besides its medicinal properties, the plant is commonly used in salads, soups, stews, and boiled as a pot herb, or even a lip-smacking beverage.
