Granny Smiths

Light green apples with a crisp, juicy, flavourful flesh, popularly used in pie making. Its tart, acidic taste works well in salads and its flavour sweetens in storage. However, due to the onset of bi-coloured apple varieties with a much sweeter taste, granny smiths are slowly declining in popularity. Greener apples are slightly less tart, and more balanced to taste than their unripe, yellow counterparts.
