Butternut

Native to the eastern United States and southeast Canada, Butternuts come from the Walnut family of Juglandaceae. Its deciduous tree can grow up to 20m, occasionally more. Its harvest is somewhat inconsistent, bearing “good” crops only once every 2-3 years and a “lighter” yield for the years between. Its oil texture and delicious taste makes the butternut an excellent ingredient in baking and candy-making.
