Traditionally, the leaves serve as a paste on itches, swelling, rheumatism, mumps, or skin eruptions. A leaf infusion is used as an after-birth tonic, while the flower infusion is used for trush, colds and cough.

Fermented or fresh bilimbi leaves are also used to treat venereal diseases in Malaysia, although no scientific evidence is available to confirm the effectiveness of such usage.
