Arugula
Eruca Sativa

Arugula, or rocket, is an annual plant native to the Mediterranean from the mustard family. It grows in rosettes measuring approximately 20 – 100 centimetres tall, with deeply pinnated, 4-petaled leaves and creamy white flowers measuring 2-4 centimetres, with purple veins and yellow stamens. It grows best in sunny, cool weather and develops its distinctive, mustard, nutty, peppery bitterness as the weather gets warmer. It is commonly used as a salad green and for this reason is often mistaken for a lettuce instead of a herb.
